Laura Maguire

Director of Research and Editor in Chief of Philosophers' Corner

Laura originally hails from Ireland, but has called San Francisco home for many years. After graduating with distinction in Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin, she moved to the Bay Area to pursue her graduate studies at Stanford University where she received her PhD. She has taught in in the Department of Philosophy as well as in the Introduction to the Humanities (IHUM) and Structured Liberal Education (SLE) programs at Stanford. Laura has been Philosophy Talk's Director of Research since 2011. Her philosophical interests are situated at the intersection of philosophy of mind, cognitive science, and psychology. When not grappling with difficult ideas, she enjoys concocting weird and wonderful things in her kitchen. She has produced several multidisciplinary dance performances, both in San Francisco and in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Laura was a founding member of the performance collective Avy K Productions, and co-founder/co-director of the SF Offside Festival. In the past she has written about music, dance, food, and other experiments.
