Subscribing to the Philosophy Talk Podcast Feed

As a Philosophy Talk subscriber, you can sign up to have new episode podcasts delivered directly to your podcast playlist each week. The episodes that you'll receive do NOT reside in Apple Music or Apple Podcasts; instead, they come from the Philosophy Talk website and are delivered to your playlist via your podcast app of choice. So unless you sign up using one of the methods outlined below, simply opening your podcast app and looking for full-length Philosophy Talk episodes just won't work. There are two ways to sign up:

1) If you're using a computer, click the black and white “Subscribe on iTunes” icon at the top of the Philosophy Talk Podcasts page. When asked to log in, please do so using your Philosophy Talk user name and password. Once submitted, a text box will pop up on the same page asking if you want to allow the page to open iTunes. Click "Allow." iTunes should open automatically. To access your new podcasts, select "Podcasts" from the pull-down menu in the upper left corner of the iTunes window, and click “Library” in the center. On this page you will see two options: “My Episodes” and “Feed.” Once you click “Feed” you will then see the five most recent episodes, ready for your listening. You can check your iTunes feed each Monday for the latest episode.

If you'd like to sign up manually from within the iTunes interface, click the orange RSS icon (also at the top of the Philosophy Talk Podcasts page), and complete the following steps in your iTunes window. Select “File” => “Subscribe to Podcast” and then type the URL: http://philosophytalk.org/rss/podcast.php in the pop-up box. Once submitted, a different box will appear asking for your user name and password. Please enter your Philosophy Talk log-in credentials and click “Log In.”

2) If you are using a mobile device, signing up to receive the Philosophy Talk podcast feed takes place entirely within your preferred mobile application. To subscribe on an iPhone using Apple’s Podcast application, first go to “Library” at the bottom of the screen. On the following page, click “Edit” in the top-right corner. Then, click “Add a Podcast by URL.” In the pop-up box, enter the following URL: https://philosophytalk.org/rss/mobile_podcast.php and click “Subscribe.” In the resulting pop-up window, submit your Philosophy Talk log-in credentials. The most recent five episodes will then appear in your feed.

If you're using an Android device, note that many Android podcasting apps do not provide a way to enter your own URL. Podcast Republic does allow for manual subscription, and subscribers have had luck using it.
